Display Props: One-Piece to Flat-Pack

A few years back, display props for overseas clients shipped as one solid piece. A hexagonal velvet Display Stand SJ4, base and backboard included, ate half a cubic metre in the crate; freight cost more than the goods, and four people lifted it into the store. Things changed. Our clients now ask, more and more, for props that travel flat. The Display Prop DJ38 — a pink-gold baked-enamel set with fabric texture — ships as flat panels with the velvet soft-pack rolled; the store clips it together from the catches in half an hour. What it saves is real: freight, storage, and the wait for a technician. The store re-themes itself. The shift is not random. Cross-border logistics bills by volumetric weight. A one-piece acrylic stage is light but bulky; the air segment stings. Flat-pack triples a container's load. A client swapping displays for peak season gets panels posted over, assembles on site, no return to the factory. The Jewelry Display Prop SJ30 follows the same logic: velvet tray, metal stand and neck form packed apart, assembled in store. Eco material and minimal design survive the flat journey better than a rigid block — flat surfaces take knocks where cantilevered edges used to snap. One-piece still has its place: heavy, stable, no assembly, right for a permanent hero spot. But we see it clearly — of the international clients opened in the last two years, eight in ten ask first whether it ships flat and self-assembles. Even repeat buyers now reorder modular parts instead of whole blocks. The drawings changed too. A solid block shipped measured and done; a flat panel now ships with an exploded diagram, catch numbers and screw positions marked, so a first-time assembler is not lost. Once a Dubai client missed the locating hole and mounted the velvet pack backwards; we sent a video at midnight to fix it. Since then every carton carries a picture assembly card, and rework went to zero. The factory moved with them. Design leaves catches and locating holes from the start; baked-enamel parts get pre-assembly marks; velvet soft-packs are vacuumed separately. A DJ38 from drawing to crate beats the old solid block by two or three days, because you are not waiting for a whole block to cure. In the end, props serve people. Clients want good looks in store, fast re-theming, and freight that is not absurd. Modular is not cutting corners; it puts the craft into the joints, so a stage travels far and still stands steady.
